Newb tip: Watch your Commander

I was assassinated in a really unpleasant way today while playing an online ranked game. It was going okay. We both controlled about half of the map with strong defenses and were teching up for a big push. It could’ve gone either way. But at some point I had sent my commander to the front lines to help ward off Tech I enemy units and build defenses and forgot about him. Then, out of nowhere, BOOM. The game was lost.

I guess my opponent built two tactical missile launchers, scouted out my stationary commander, and took him out. It was a really unnecessary death, and the game could’ve gone on a lot longer (and had a more fun ending). So I suppose the moral of the story is: never lose track of your commander. Especially when those Tech II units start coming out, pull your commander off the front lines and keep him somewhere nice and safe. It may be a good idea to put him on a patrol route so he’s never standing in one place. Just don’t do what I did.
