Supreme Commander Talk

With the most recent update to the GPGnet software, Gas Powered Games has launched a new site with very detailed statistics of every ranked game ever played. Check it out at http://gpgnet.gaspowered.com/scstats. You can view the entire 1v1 ladder, and by clicking on an individual player within the ladder, you can get some very detailed stats on that player. For example, if I click on my profile, “Grokmoo”, and then on “Full Unit Breakdown”, I can see that I have built 1127 Aeon interceptors, and 6172 Aeon light tanks. Pretty much every statistic you can imagine is on display.

The uses of this new site are tremendous. Glancing through the stats of the top 10 players, I can see that all but one of them has played the vast majority of games as Aeon. This is hard, quantitative evidence of imbalances in the game. There is also a wealth of information regarding which units are used heavily, and which are used almost not at all. This is valuable information for potential modders, as they can see what works and what doesn’t work, and what kind of balance fixes should be made to the game. I expect that this information should help in making some of the highest quality mods ever seen for any game. Now all we need is the official development tools to be released.
