Official map editor in mid April
Heads up to all you modders out there: the official map editor is scheduled for release with the next SupCom patch, due out in mid April. GPG will also be releasing more detailed technical specifications on the various formats used by the game, which should be a big help. Read the interview with Chris Taylor here for details.
I for one am pretty excited about the possibilities for modding SupCom, and I expect in time we will see some truly great mods. There are already some useful smaller mods out there; check out the official modding forums for info on released mods and ideas for future ones.
On a less fortunate note, it appears that the oft-mentioned “dev tools” will probably consist entirely of the map editor. In the interview linked above, Taylor avoids mentioning any additional tools to be released, even though he is asked point blank about them. This is bad news for those who were hopping a unit exporter tool or the like. It looks very likely that mod makers will have to try to put together their own tools for these purposes.
Update: It is confirmed that the “dev tools” will indeed consist only of the map editor. Thanks to Ryuken for pointing this out in the comments.
Probably the largest complaint about Supreme Commander is that matches do tend to take a long time to complete, are you looking at any ways to shorten the average amount of time required to complete a match?
Pardon? just glacing at profiles of the top ranked 1v1 players will show that average times are low (~20 min) and few games are long (max time

It has been said before on the forums by squidbot and co that it’s only the map editor idd. The rest can be adjusted through code directly. GPG can’t release their unit-tools since those contain third-party software ( http://forums.gaspowered.com/viewtopic.php?t=1954&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 ) but there are definitely solutions underway by people with too much time on their hands. :)
