Supreme Commander Talk gets a forum

I’ve been thinking of adding a forum to this site for awhile now, and I’ve finally gotten around to it. So, check out the forum. As an added bonus, I’m using forum software that is compatible with the WordPress blogging software, so your login details here on the blog and in the forum should be one and the same. I think the forum will be helpful because comments on older blog entries here basically get ignored/forgotten as they slip off the front page. The “Recent Comments” sidebar does an okay job at tracking the five most recent responses, but it’s not nearly the same as a forum that sorts everything in order by most recently replied-to. This way you can be sure that your comments aren’t lost to the deep mists of the interwebs.

The forum is pretty basic at the moment; it’s purely functional, and is using the default theme. In the coming days I’ll beautify it and make it mesh better with the theme of the blog. Oh, and as it becomes more popular and well-used, I’ll end up needing to find some forum moderators to help keep everything in line.

    Yes!

Can you edit the register code to allow the backtick (`) character in usernames? I’d rather not register without my backtick. I already had to do it for GPGnet and it just feels wrong. :(

Sorry T2A, the ` character is not allowed in usernames, and for good reason. In many scripting languages on Linux systems that is the character used to call a function in the operating system, and so any sane input validation checker is going to not allow it. I’m not going to remove it from the check, because it is probably disallowed for a reason (e.g. allowing it might open up some possible exploit).

haha, funny, I wasn’t even aware that you could register on this blog. I have been entering my details every time, like a chump. Good idea though, there are a lot of things that could be taken to the forums rather than discussed in the comments of posts.
