What other games do you play?
This subject came up in a previous open thread, and I considered it worthy of more wide consideration. What other games do you play? Respond in the comments. The question is an interesting one, because as far as I know, there are two kinds of gamers. One kind of gamer gets really deep into games and pretty much only plays one game at a time. That describes me. Before Supreme Commander it was Final Fantasy XII, and before that, Medieval II, Galactic Civilizations II, Civilization IV, various Half-Life 2 mods, NetHack, World of WarCraft, etc. But it’s always just one game at a time for me. When I’m into a game, I’m way into it, and I can’t really be bothered to play something else.
The other kind of gamer, by contrast, is more of an all-round gamer. He plays many different games at a time. This type of gamer is less attached to any one game, and when one game gets boring or starts becoming annoying, he simply switches to another game. I can empathize with this kind of gamer, especially because it’d be nice to play another game rather than going off and not playing games when Supreme Commander becomes frustrating, but that’s just not who I am. So the question to all the readers out there is: what other games are you playing? Are you focusing mainly on Supreme Commander right now or are you still playing other games frequently?

I play other games apart from Supcom when I find it frustrating, especially since the size of the game overwhelms me on some occasions. When that happens, I just log onto to steam and play Team Fortress Classic (thought it was CS eh? :D), or Dark Messiah. I also sometimes play Oblivion, and recently, but have stopped, Freelancer. I do have WoW but I hardly play that anymore. But if I’m bored of supcom and I want to play a strategy game I am really familiar with, I just load up TA and give it another whirl against the AI, which I find more bearable than Supcom since I actually know what’s going on and the game doesn’t lag (I don’t have a very high end compy).

I definitely fall into the one game at a time category.
Before SupCom I played WoW for two and a half years. I did take breaks on three occasions but for me it was either raiding full time or not playing at all. During the breaks I played some Warcraft III, some Civ IV and even some FEAR and Doom 3.
Before WoW I played Warcraft III religiously. Before that were Civilization 3 and Diablo 2. Before that were Starcraft and Warcraft 2. Civilization 2 was probably the first game I played seriously. Before that I messed around on some various flight simulators and games like Descent that my dad had but I was really too young for any serious gaming (I’m 20).
But yeah I get too far in to games to be able to play more than one at one. If I get frustrated with SupCom and I can’t vent by playing another round with the map I just lost on thumbs down I just do something else.

UT2004. Still play it, though certainly not as often as I used to. Been playing since its release basically, so that’s three years. It took me far too long to realize how to really play, and by then I’d missed the bulk of the competition, but I have played in a few friendly 1v1/TDM tournaments/ladders. I mostly stick to playing with a fairly large group of players who hang around BeyondUnreal.com and I’m probably in the top five of the regulars there. I’m going pro in UT3 since I’ll be around and better than most (from a community-wide perspective involving all players) from the very start. ^___^
Before that there wasn’t any one game I was truly into. I’ve played a lot of console games, from the original NES up to Xbox. I have not gotten a 360, don’t really plan on it at the moment, and the PS3 is a joke. Forza 2 and Gears of War would be the only two games that would make me want to get a 360 but until I get a job there’s no chance in me spending $520 to play two games. I’m pretty new when it comes to PC gaming – UT2004 was really the first game I played seriously and SupCom is headed in the direction of being the second. It’s already #2 on my Xfire profile (http://www.xfire.com/profile/turns2ashes/) but way, way behind UT2004.

I played TA online pretty consistently for 8 years. I got sidetracked by stuff like Counter Strike, TFC and various other HL mods like Battlegrounds, The Specialists and Zombie Panic for a while but generally came back to it pretty quickly.
My other main gaming obsession would be MAME or anything arcadey you can get on PS2 or Dreamcast, like Virtua Fighter 4, Under Defeat or Gradius V. I absolutely love fixed scrolling shooters, or shmups as they’re often called. Weaving your tiny craft through complex pattens of bullet hell really is just fantastic. My flat mate who moved out recently was seriously into Street Fighter 2. I must have spent a good 50+ hours playing it with him. We’d get home from college and play for 4 or 5 hours straight. We got obscenely good with all the overhead mix ups, cross overs and combinations. I am seriously missing getting to play this guy.

I’d like to think I play other games than SupCom, but since beta I’ve found myself mostly committing my time to SupCom only. I did play a little GalCiv 2 now and then, but mostly when I don’t play SupCom, I browse SupCom forums. Lately though I’ve been just waiting for the patch and not playing at all! It’s stupid and I don’t know why I do this.. I got to start a new game until patch arrives..
Oh! I did finish Gateway (text adventure game) a couple weeks back! \o/

I’d say I’m somewhere in between. I’d like to play one game a lot, but I live in a rural area, so I have to play whatever is popular at the time. I can’t play SupCom online, so that’s out.
Other than that, I play Super Smash Brothers Melee, Halo/2, C&C3:TW, DDR, Karaoke Revolution, Guitar Hero (when I can), a little Dungeon Siege (we just finished DS2 last week), and I played some Bomberman last night, but not really by choice.

heh, I forgot ZORK 1 2 3 and a lot of other Text Adventures. I still haven’t finished zork3 after 10 YEARS. Every month or so I try it again.

None. I only even got SupCom because I was a TA fan and couldn’t resist. Don’t have much time for games anymore.
I have played around with a couple Flash towerdefense games on occasion though.

BF2142, STALKER, Trackmania United, Command & Conquer 3, The Sims 2, Half life 2 stuff, that’s pretty much it.

The fallout series (even tactics has its day) is a mainstay, i replay those games once a year or so. I tried playing eve online this year but as soon as i bought supcom i cancelled my subscription as it was obvious i wasnt going to be wasting time flying silly ships around. I like to focus my attention on one game at a time, i think it makes me enjoy it more, especially RPG’s.

Keri: Looks like you haven’t updated your blog since Supreme Commander came out, hehe. Maybe a little bit of causation going on there?

used to be a ‘many games at once’: College was all C&C, WarCraft2, DukeNukem, Myst, they all blended together.
But now as I’m getting old and have a wife/daughter I focus on one, and then might sprinkle one or two others around. It was WoW, with occasional BF2, or HL:DoD. Now it’s SupCom with occasional DoD:Source and BF2142. The later two games are ‘for fun’. I can join quick, quit when I want. And in this vein, I am eagerly awaiting TeamFortress2.

Falcon: You said it with the TF2. I absolutely cannot wait. I got a good amount of enjoyment out of various HL2 mods: some non-free ones, like Day of Defeat: Source, Counter-Strike: Source, and some free ones, like Dystopia, SourceForts, The Battlegrounds, and more. But I absolutely cannot wait for TF2.

I consider myself a fairly well-rounded gamer. The game I play the most currently is Day of Defeat Source, due to its online action-packed nature and ability to either quickly play a round, or play for hours if I want. I’m also sharing my RTS time budget between SupCom (online) and C&C3 (single player). Many of the games I play are determined by what’s accessible and “runable” by the most people at LAN parties. Therefore, I’ve had periods where I play lots of UT2k, Rise of Nations, Starcraft, various version of Counterstrike, etc. I love older games that have stood the test of time, like Starcraft, and Age of Empires 2, which is my favorite RTS. RPG’s are off-limits for me, they suck. Oh yeah, I play a decent amount of Mario Kart 64 (emulated on my Xbox) too.

I only play SupCom and CS: Source right now but also have StarCraft installed.

I’ve hardly played anything but SupCom since it came out. Some SNES roms, one or two games of Red Orchestra, some Garry’s Mod.
Mostly, if I’m on my computer not doing homework or just wasting time, I’m playing SupCom.
I’d like to find the time to play Ikaruga; that game is too sick for words. Maybe once this semester is done.

I play CS:S, Battlefield 2142, Battlefield 2, Company of Heroes, Oblivion, Toca Race Driver 3, S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Half-Life 2, Sin Episodes: Emergence, Guild Wars (Occasionally), Red Orchestra and I think that’s it, Apart from college I have alot of free time :P I do play all of these but I mainly focus on Battlefield 2142 and Supreme Commander, (I love my Fps’s :D, I always play really well on Bf2142 but I find on Supreme commander I don’t…)

I have played, TA, AOE, AOE2, AOE3, Mech 4 Vengance, Freelancer, Combat Simulator 2, Elite Force, Halo (for PC of course), CoD 2, Guild Wars, a Month of WoW, Starcraft, Warcraft 3, Homeworld Cataclysm, Homeworld 2. I will have to say that right now my favorite RTS is a draw between SupCom and Homeworld Cataclysm. There just something awsome about 3d RTS games set in outer space. It’s pretty much RTS or FPS games for me and right now the big opponent with SupCom is FEAR combat (multiplayer version). I’m generally either playing FEAR or SupCom these days.
