More confirmed news about the patch

We don’t yet know when the patch is coming out (and indeed, we probably won’t know until it actually happens), but there are some things we do know. For one, the patch has been undergoing testing for about a week now. Gas Powered Games set up a separate beta/testing server and granted access to some of the top-ranked players to test the patch and balance issues. Having the best players of the game testing the patch really is the best way to go about it.

The other confirmed news is that the patch will feature significant tier balance changes. In particular, tech 2 is going to be a lot more viable and useful. You might actually start seeing large battles consisting of tech 2 tanks. I don’t know yet how the balance changes are being made but if I had to guess I’d say that they are substantially increasing the resource cost to upgrade a factory to tech 3 (a change that we have repeatedly advocated for on SupComTalk). You shouldn’t be seeing siege assault bots 12 minutes into the match anymore.

Source on this one? Forum link?

  2. Genna Says:

This news brings warm feelings to my heart. I pour scorn on those who think that the devs don’t listen to us! Scorn I say!

  3. T2A` Says:

W3rd. What constitutes a “top” player? I got two stars, can I get in some testing? :D

  4. Jay Says:

awesome, i look forward to T3 taking longer to appear! T2 is so underutilized and yet has such great ground units that should be mainstay components of every land war.

  5. Wuped Says:

    Sweetness.

Interceptor: The source is my “sources”. Obviously the person(s) who told me about the ongoing test server shall remain nameless, because it’s under a veil of secrecy. I couldn’t get any of them to tell me what the upcoming changes so far in the test patch were; I merely got confirmation of the test server’s existence.

  7. Wuped Says:

Ohhh mysterious sources, the plot thickens DUN DUN DUN!

  8. Molloy Says:

Making T3 more expensive isn’t necessarily such a good thing. What if it drags everything out more? I thought they should have simply made it more powerful. People seem to complain the game is too slow (in the early stages) already. We just need to hurry people going to t2. Not slow them from going to T3.

  9. Unconquerable Says:

I am surprised it took this long to leak lol

“I am surprised it took this long to leak lol”
    This long?

Hell most people have known it since the testing started. I knew far before because certain mappers *coughdarkcough* shouted to the high heavens that they had been chosen to test the Official Map Maker. Only reason I didn’t make a post on here specifically about it was that I thought it was common knowledge o.O

Anyhoo, its not really worth arguing over what balance changes are necessary, as the changes have already been made. Save your arguing until after the patch is released :P

  11. Ryuken Says:

That is some good news, hopefully it won’t take another 4 weeks now to be released. :)

  12. Hipsu Says:

Hopefully testers don’t find unbalancies. That would lead to more tuning and more testing. :)

  13. Cyde Weys Says:

Actually, I’m hoping that the testers do find the unbalances :-P

We don’t want a repeat of what happened to Aeon this last patch cycle.
