Cyde Weys is in the building

Thursday, May 31st, 2007

This is just a short little post to say that I’m back from my trip to California, and I will resume my regular writing duties here at SupComTalk shortly. I’m installing the patch as we speak and I will have something ready as soon as I am acclimated to all of the new changes.

A review of “Zone Control”: the new custom map sweeping GPGnet

Thursday, May 31st, 2007

Saya and AngryZealot have just released Zone Control, and it is now up to version 2 on the map vault.
Already big name players such as Unconquerable have picked up the game mode, and soon after the map vault was released both versions had over 100 downloads and 5 star ratings. In addition, the most recent [...]

GPGnet has been patched

Thursday, May 31st, 2007

Earlier today, version 1.5.83.1 of GPGnet was released. An official patch note/thread is available here. Two features have been added.
First, The Vault contains sections for maps, tools, and videos, and may be accessed from the ‘Tools’ menu in your GPGnet main window. The map vault is a significant addition, as it provides [...]

Why big maps don’t work

Wednesday, May 30th, 2007

As we have discussed previously on the site, the current game mechanics of Supreme Commander don’t really allow for proper battles at very large scales. In principle, fleets of battleships could engage each other or enemy bases, since individual battleships are such massive, powerful units. However, on large maps, it is just not [...]

Are the factions still imbalanced?

Tuesday, May 29th, 2007

Back when SupCom was in its early beta stages, the general consensus was that the Cybran were the most powerful faction, but only because the mantis was substantially better than all the other faction’s T1 tanks. After release day, players quickly began to realize that Aeon were the new overpowered faction. When grouped [...]

Bugs in the patch

Monday, May 28th, 2007

The v3251 patch made a lot of changes, but apparently not all of them are for the better. Already, several major new bugs have been reported. First off, while the Cybran T3 fighter has always been kind of broken, it seems that it is now broken in a new way. While it [...]

Patch v3251 open thread

Saturday, May 26th, 2007

Now that the patch is out, and you have had some time to play around with it, what are your impressions? Are you happy with the patch, disappointed, or a little of both? Are there any changes that didn’t make it into the patch that you might still like to see in the [...]

Elaborating on Caps Lock != Shift

Saturday, May 26th, 2007

Good day, I’m Testudaphobia. Along with Grokmoo and CydeWeys, I attended the University of Maryland, and was a roommate of Grokmoo. Do not fear-it is unlikely SupComTalk will be saturated with any more current or former Maryland students. I’m a brand new SupCom player. After taking over a week to select [...]

Assisting shields

Friday, May 25th, 2007

One new feature added in the recent patch that we haven’t yet mentioned is the ability of engineers to assist shields. Essentially, engineers can now assist shields in a manner similar to how they could already assist factories.
At first glance, this may seem like a poorly balanced feature. After all, what is to [...]

Caps Lock != Shift

Thursday, May 24th, 2007

A critical distinction when laying out one’s initial build sequence, especially in preventing the loss of all stored energy before a single power generator has been built. That is all.
