New patch special: Losses count double!
I bring grim, foreboding news of an awful, terrible, no good bug in the tweaked rank scoring system of the patch. Apparently some losses are now being counted double, as Sir Loui unfortunately reports. For instance, Sir Loui lost a game that was worth 24 ranking points, but 48 points ended up being taken away from his total points value. And it doesn’t seem to work the other way, so there’s no double accounting for wins. This double reduction bug means that score ratings are no longer zero sum, so it seems like there should be an overall decrease in scores. Not good!
If you care about your score, I would suggest holding off on playing ranked until the issue is publicly acknowledged by GPG and we get some kind of interim assurance that once the bug is fixed in a future GPGnet server patch they will go back through the log of all the old completed games and recalculate the scores. Or, if you don’t care about your score, just keep playing ranked games as usual!
Update 2007-06-05: It looks like the bug has been fixed with a server-side patch. See this thread for more details.

I told them this on the first day of patch, they didn’t believe me, wtf?!

I wouldn’t believe you either.
I don’t like you.

This whole game is just so bugged i have found myself not playing at all in the last few weeks. The ‘big’ patch was meant to clear down most if not all of these exploits and major bugs, yet we just find more and more issues. I don’t think anyone expects bug free games, but they really should not be this bugged. GPG made such a large point of the amount of play testing that this patch got. Well, it looks like it was just not done right at all. Its not a matter of more play testing, just a matter of testing using the right methods.

Impact: better the devil you know?
With such a smoothly integrated patching system, its a real shame that the replay system is so patch-dependent. As so many of these bugs would likely be ‘instant’ fixes, it must be a frustrating life as a GPG programmer – they release quickly and community whinge about broken replays – hold the release off until new features X,Y,Z are also complete and community whinge about not wanting to play a broken game – they lose either way! Hopefully we will run out of exploits soon though.
This bug in particular though being a GPGnet issue and probably server-side at that should see a quick resolution for new matches. Results already processed would be another story though.

The ONLY reason this happens is because they refuse to listen if you report a bug. I reported a few bugs and all I got as a response was ‘k’.
I had a 2v2 ranked game on ZONE CONTROL, yet they won’t believe it and don’t do anything about it. At the moment they only seem to care about tournaments…

Wrote a couple of posts yesterday and the day before. Any chance you’d let them through Cyde Weys. I seemed to have misplaced your email.

Feral: Agreed there is that, and SupCom Talk is good for letting everyone know about exploits. However, if done well, it’s very hard to see what exploits an opponent may be using without looking very closely at the replay and i can’t say i have much hope for GPG actually automatically seeing when exploits have been used and voiding the ranked game.
