Hotfix patch v3254 released

Patch v3254 was just released. This is a hotfix for the v3251 patch, meaning that it did not go through an extended Quality Assurance cycle (and thus it doesn’t really change anything major). It still is a version number change, though, meaning that all of your old saves and replays will no longer work. Again. To get the patch, just log into GPGnet and it will install automatically. Here are the release notes for v3254:

  • Shields now protect against UEF and Cybran strategic bombers.
  • Disconnection dialog now updates properly, and quiet times will not get stuck at five seconds.
  • Aircraft carriers that are building aircraft can no longer be attacked by Interceptors or Air Superiority Fighters.
  • Fixed issues relating to how T3 artillery fires.
  • Children of children will now die correctly when Czar/Atlantis dies.
  • Cybran T2 Sonar hit points increased.
  • Engineers will no longer assist a shield generator if the shield has been destroyed. They will now wait until the shield comes back up before assisting.
  • Strategic Missile Launchers will no longer play the ‘Strategic Launch Detected’ voice if you simply select a spot to nuke.
  • UEF T3 Sonar Platform’s rate of fire decreased and damage increased.
  • Corona damage radius changed from 0 to 1. This effectively reduces the DPS of the unit.
  • New Ferry Beacon Icon.
  • Fixed issue that prevented players from moving the cursor to lower third of screen.
  • Fixed exploit that let players permanently move the commander off map.
  • dbg_ballistics is no longer usable with cheats off.
  • Fixed crash that occurred when players pressed and held middle mouse wheel down and then pressed the End or Home key in game.
  • Transport-related tweaks.
  • Introduced 500 structure build queue limit.
  • Sacrifice retuned; can no longer be used on ACU/SCU upgrades.
  • Replays downloaded from the GPGnet Replay Vault will no longer cause the replay dialog to fail.
  • Sacrifice Exploit on paused SCU/SCU corrected.

Most of these changes were expected. There’s nothing really big that sticks out at me. It’s good that they fixed the invulnerability exploit, as well as the Aeon sacrifice ability imbalance and exploit. Also, apparently those rumors of strategic bombers going through shields wasn’t an idle rumor, which is very scary indeed, and I’m very glad that got fixed. Also, I don’t know much about the now-fixed exploit that apparently allowed you to permanently move your commander off the map, so if someone could explain that in the comments, that’d be shiny (I suspect that it actually worked with any ground unit that could fit into a transport plane, but the only units you’d ever want to use it on would be your ACU and possibly RAS SCUs).

    burn, air inferior fighters.

  2. Wuped Says:

cyde it involved putting acu into t2 transport making t2 transport target something then losing that target then it flies away forever!

  3. CovertJaguar Says:

I just want to make a note that SonofShagrat edited his release notes. You CAN still use sacrifice on upgrades, but the benefit has been rebalanced to something logical.

    Quoted from SoS:

    Sacrifice retuned
EDIT: Originally incorrectly stated that could not sacrifice on ACU/SCU upgrades; this is still viable but has been retuned..

aside from the confusing ASF changes, all looks good

  8. Spud Says:

Any chance of more replay reviews cyde? your reviews where one of the things that caught my eye on this site, especially when i was a newer player

  9. Testudaphobia Says:

Spud: I’ve been watching a fair number of replays recently, more than playing in fact, and am planning a few reviews.

  10. Cyde Weys Says:

Spud: Yeah, replay reviews have been one of our more popular topics, so I’m definitely planning on doing more.

  11. Interceptor Says:

Air Inferiority Fighters, I like that. I’m going to start calling them that whenever I can.

I just installed the hotfix with the link provided above:
    Incremental Patch
    http://thq.vo.llnwd.net/o10/SC/live/supcom_patch_1.1.3251_to_1.1.3254.exe

The game was patched ok, but no I cannot launch it anymore.
    I get the error :
“Please verify video hardware meets minimum specifications. Please Ensure system has current video drivers.”

I suggest you refrain to install this until it is sorted out.
(btw, i have this on two different XP PCs)

  13. MasterZ Says:

Ok I was able to get into the game again, if someone else get the problem, it is related to some option or format in the game.prefs file.
I didn’t look too deep, just rename the file, run the game and recreate your profile. (Afterwards, you can add in the new game.prefs the part about your campaign status if you care).

  14. T2A` Says:

Does someone care to check and see if the new air inferiority fighters lose to their mass in interceptors (9)? I’m assuming they will but I’m too lazy to find someone to test with. :P

  15. amanasleep Says:

Has anybody tested to see how the ROF/Damage change to the Sonar Bean worked out? If overall DPS is the same I would surmise that the change made it more powerful rather than less.

  16. Master Grim Says:

    @zordon: Many thanks.

@T2A: I would be glad to help… but GPGnet is still refusing to work. D:

  17. zordon Says:

I want to know if the bean is still solar enough.

  18. whoster69 Says:

Still no multiplayer saves eh? Is it ever coming?

  19. Coridan Says:

I spent an hour trying to get my game to realize that I have the minimum requirements, and finally got it to. Apparently this is a very common issue. If anyone else has problems with it, I can post the numerous fixes I received. Just seems they keep creating more problems than fixes… sigh.

  20. Gryphyn Says:

New Mod Idea – Completely off topic, but I don’t know where would be a good place for it.

A common issue I read all the time is “Tech 2 is skipped in the rush to T3″ or T1 is now skipped,” etc.

How about a mod (I’ll call it the Tech Period Mod) that sets a time limit restriction (host variable, of course), where T2 can’t be built until X minutes into the game, T3 after Y more minutes, and T4 after Z more minutes?

Yes, this removes the econ race, but isn’t that some of the criticism some have for the game, that the core of multiplayer is an economy race and not a strategic conflict? So take the econ race out of it. You know that you will have the economy to produce Tech level X when the time comes…but then so will your enemy. Out teching your opponent will not save you, so your strategy had better.

Obviously the econ race will not be completely gone though, for the one who can produce the most units the quickest once the next tech level is unlocked stands to gain an advantage. However, the choice to store up potential manufacturing (engineers, energy/mass storage) must be weighed against the defense/attack within the current tech period.

    I’d play it.

  21. Thygrrr Says:

Gryphyn, there already is such a mod, it’s called “Graduated Game”.

  22. Gryphyn Says:

Well now, don’t I feel smart.

Is the actual gameplay enjoyable, or is it one of those things where the idea is more fun than the followthrough?

  23. Gryphyn Says:

Actually, “Graduated Game” is not quite what I was talking about. It is based on points, rather than a set, measurable period of time between tech levels.

  24. Jordan Says:

I’m having problems running git I’ve got all the requirements and it says I don’t…Help??

  25. Coridan Says:

    Jordan:
This is a common problem with this patch. I’m assuming you mean you launch the game and it says you don’t meet minimum requirements. Solution is simple:

First of all make sure you have hidden files and folders show:
Open up “My Computer” click on tools -> Folder Options. Click on the view tab and click on “Show hidden files and folders.”

Ok the next part depends on your profile name for your computer but go through these folders to find Game.prefs
    C:\Documents and Settings\My Profile\Local Settings\Application Data\Gas Powered Games\SupremeCommander

the folder that will be different is the one called My Profile.

Lastly, rename or delete Game.pref and launch the game normally (the game will create a new one) should work after that.

  26. j0e90 Says:

    Awesome.

Only re-installed sc trwice before finding this post….

  27. Chris Hamilton Says:

I am getting the same error and the game.prefs fix doesn’t work for me. Does anyone have a clue what that means?

  28. krisboats Says:

I installed this game a few weeks ago from the retail disc and started playing through, got a fair way through the campaigns and got bored of having to put the disc in so went to update it. The gpgnet thing sorted it all out but then i had the “verify drivers” error upon starting it. Deleted the game.prefs thing and now all my campaign info is gone, i can’t continue a campaign, i can’t load gamesaves… its messed it up completely.

I know for a fact i can’t be bothered to play through that many hours of the game again just because of a sodding patch, is there a fix or should i just sell the game now?

  29. damian Says:

I’m with you krisboats – it’s all a bit hopeless if you ask me. Sell it I say – why haven’t GPG addressed this already? It’s been a problem since the beginning for many people (a search on google will show you that). GAH!

  30. Alan Says:

Rather than delete or rename the game.pref, I just went through it with notepad, and dropped my screen resolution and antialiasing setting down, and it than ran. (Had already reinstalled it twice, doh) So if you get the please verify drivers error and you changed your screen resolution before patching, this should fix it.

  31. Jonathan Simpson Says:

I too encountered the issue of when installing any of the Supreme Commander Patches i recieved:

“Please verify video hardware meets minimum specifications. Please Ensure system has current video drivers.”

After searching I found many suggestions of removing the game.prefs file, running the Supreme Commander safe mode option, and even Alan’s suggestions.

On editing the Game.Prefs file I found that in the Profile section my primary adapter was set to the following –

    primary_adapter = ‘1024,768,60′,

Instead of the correct refresh value of 61 e.g.

    primary_adapter = ‘1024,768,61′,

For the less technical the first two numbers “1024,768″ are the resolution and the last , the refresh rate.

In this case you simply need to make sure your refresh rate in the Game.Prefs file matches that of the actual refresh rate of the card at the resolution stated.

To do this , simply right click on the desktop, select ‘properties’ , select the ‘Settings tab’ and click the ‘Advanced button’ then on the Advanced properties form which is displayed click the ‘Adapter’ tab.

Click the ‘List All Modes…’ button. From this list check the refresh rate avaliable for the resolution in the Game.Prefs file.

Hope this gives another option to those of you still having issues.

    Kind Regards,

    Jonathan
