I too encountered the issue of when installing any of the Supreme Commander Patches i recieved:

“Please verify video hardware meets minimum specifications. Please Ensure system has current video drivers.”

After searching I found many suggestions of removing the game.prefs file, running the Supreme Commander safe mode option, and even Alan's suggestions.

On editing the Game.Prefs file I found that in the Profile section my primary adapter was set to the following -

primary_adapter = '1024,768,60',

Instead of the correct refresh value of 61 e.g.

primary_adapter = '1024,768,61',

For the less technical the first two numbers "1024,768" are the resolution and the last , the refresh rate.

In this case you simply need to make sure your refresh rate in the Game.Prefs file matches that of the actual refresh rate of the card at the resolution stated.

To do this , simply right click on the desktop, select 'properties' , select the 'Settings tab' and click the 'Advanced button' then on the Advanced properties form which is displayed click the 'Adapter' tab.

Click the 'List All Modes...' button. From this list check the refresh rate avaliable for the resolution in the Game.Prefs file.

Hope this gives another option to those of you still having issues.

Kind Regards,

Jonathan

Rather than delete or rename the game.pref, I just went through it with notepad, and dropped my screen resolution and antialiasing setting down, and it than ran. (Had already reinstalled it twice, doh) So if you get the please verify drivers error and you changed your screen resolution before patching, this should fix it.

I'm with you krisboats - it's all a bit hopeless if you ask me. Sell it I say - why haven't GPG addressed this already? It's been a problem since the beginning for many people (a search on google will show you that). GAH!

I installed this game a few weeks ago from the retail disc and started playing through, got a fair way through the campaigns and got bored of having to put the disc in so went to update it. The gpgnet thing sorted it all out but then i had the "verify drivers" error upon starting it. Deleted the game.prefs thing and now all my campaign info is gone, i can't continue a campaign, i can't load gamesaves... its messed it up completely.

I know for a fact i can't be bothered to play through that many hours of the game again just because of a sodding patch, is there a fix or should i just sell the game now?

I am getting the same error and the game.prefs fix doesn't work for me. Does anyone have a clue what that means?

Jordan:
This is a common problem with this patch. I'm assuming you mean you launch the game and it says you don't meet minimum requirements. Solution is simple:

First of all make sure you have hidden files and folders show:
Open up "My Computer" click on tools -> Folder Options. Click on the view tab and click on "Show hidden files and folders."

Ok the next part depends on your profile name for your computer but go through these folders to find Game.prefs
C:\Documents and Settings\My Profile\Local Settings\Application Data\Gas Powered Games\SupremeCommander

the folder that will be different is the one called My Profile.

Lastly, rename or delete Game.pref and launch the game normally (the game will create a new one) should work after that.

Actually, "Graduated Game" is not quite what I was talking about. It is based on points, rather than a set, measurable period of time between tech levels.
