Reader evaluation of the GPGnet patch

Hopefully everyone has had time by now to check out the recent GPGnet patch. The largest changes are the addition of the 3v3 ladder and the new rewards system (which also changes all of the rank icons in chat rooms). So, what’s your feedback on the icons?

How do you feel about the cosmetic chat changes in the latest GPGnet patch?

Also, how do you feel about the 3v3 ladder? Had a chance to play it yet? If so, what do you think of it?

    warning, rant.

I’m hoping it lets me upload Coop Supreme Art of Defence finally, Had it done over a week ago! talk about lack of support from gpg too, I’ve responded to multiple forum posts, in map, mod and tech support forums, sent PM’s, that had the buck passed on them, and sent email, of which i’ve had no reply. All in all damn frustrated with the lack of attention to the community! They better be cooking up some mega-uber-expansion.

    rant over.

i agree they dont seem to want to help the community all that much with problems…. gpgnet kind of has a “sweep under the rug” attitude… yes? But I think perhaps comments like these belong under a whole seperate blog article. Maybe it deserves one? I’d write one, but I dont think I really have enough experience with the problem. Maybe something to research later.

Anyway. I like the new chat Icons and symbols. I sort of miss the stars and the ease of seeing how good someone was. I feel like before, there was a certain amount of respect given towards players with more stars. Like if someone was saying something in chat, you could tell who to listen to, and who to disregard.
The awards now are pretty nice though. I like being able to show off the nice shiny gold and different colors on the sidebar. What I’d like to see though I think… is the bringing back of the stars in place of the avatars used on the chat. The sidebar can still have the avatar and shiny stuff… but they should keep stars in main chat. Just my opinion.

Zordon: This is the first I’ve heard of this issue. What’s up? There’s some kind of a bug preventing you from uploading to The Vault? That’s no good!

There’s too many damn icons. I like sleek, distractionless interfaces, and GPGnet has developed into one of the most distracting I’ve seen.

As far as the 3v3 ladder, I don’t care. Same with the 2v2 ladder. My computer isn’t fast enough to run any such game that lasts more than 20-30 minutes well and the the game speed will just hit -4. That’s quite slow and boring.

T2A that dosn’t stop Animabis and nod5…. Animabis was running at -5 20 minutes into a 2v2 so we stratbombed him and he refused to quit aparently lagging was part of there “strat”. 2 hours in real time for a half an hour game I was watching T.V. for most of it.

yeah cyde, I upload, it says it works (albeit with a small upload size) and then if you download the map from the vault, it’s 0k and just a directory. Im gonna test this again with new gpgnet patch tonight. crosses fingers. I mentioned it in one of the Supreme Art of Defence reviews I think, As i’d just rewritten supreme art of defence for coop for the weekend lan. Its fun. wish you could all enjoy it too.

Icons are kinda entertaining, encourages people to play because they can get status symbols other than ranking points. Which is nice since I seem to be always getting matched with people in the top 500 or down in the 20,000s. Whats with the lack of the 3000-1000 crowd?

  8. Thygrrr Says:

I really like the new icons. They are sleek, don’t distract much, and give away interesting info about the individual players, their achievements, and what they deem important about themselves.

As for GPG’s support, it’s awesome.

  9. Cattletech Says:

Whoa, I didn’t know until now you could actually choose which awards to display. Neat. Thanks for the tip Thygrrr.

(if you’re still in the dark like I was, just enter your profile and click on one of the awards at the top to remove/change them)

  10. Molloy Says:

You can turn the stars and avatars off. I think there are perhaps a few too many of them, but the design of them is pretty clean, and the colours dull so it looks alright really.

  11. Cyde Weys Says:

Cool, I just learned that you could set your own display items. Nice tip. For those of you trying to figure it out, type /whois username into the chat window to bring up your profile, and then click on the icons on the bar along your username to set them.

  12. zordon Says:

Thygrrr, what aspect of gpg support is awesome? I’ve only had to deal with this one map vault problem, which they dont want to know about.

Zordon, we’re around :). Unfortunately we are few but we do what we can. I tried to find a topic by your name on the GPGnet tech support forum: http://forums.gaspowered.com/viewforum.php?f=14 but didn’t see any.
