Engineer is Here
Well, to all three of you who still visit this site, there is finally a new writer! Here I go by my SupCom handle, Engineer. In so-called “real life” my name is Ryan, and I actually am an Electrical Engineer, which is every bit as awesome as it sounds (i.e. yeah… not so much).
My real passion is military history and gaming. For computer games, I like Turn-Based Strategy games (Civilization 4, Galactic Civilizations 2, something called “The Operational Art of War”, etc.) and Real-Time-Strategy, namely Supreme Commander. I also play a lot of strategy board wargames. I’m here because I believe that Supreme Commander is truly the epitome of the Real Time Strategy genre. While it certainly may not be for everyone, and while it lacks the fantasy or historical elements that other RTS’s enjoy, Supreme Commander has the scope, scale, tactics, and strategy that RTS’s have always been capable of but never quite approached, with the exception, of course, of Total Annihilation. My appreciation for this game and for the RTS genre in general are what motivate me to post here.
Now I know that there are a lot of people who visit the site (or at least used to visit this site) who are far wiser and more capable than myself when it comes to SupCom, and could probably write far better and more interesting posts. However, those people have for whatever reason not been posting lately. I really don’t want to see this site disappear though. There is a lot to this game, a LOT, and SupComTalk is a unique place to, well, talk about it! In a smaller, more intellectual setting than the main game forums. I don’t really expect anything I write to really teach anyone anything, but if I can spark some interesting strategy discussion then I will be more than satisfied and will have done my part for the SupCom community.
With all that said, lets get to posting!

You have awesome tastes in games. Galactic Civilizations II is awesome in every sense of the word. Same goes for Civ 4 and, obviously, Supreme Commander.

Space Empires!!! Yes, no???!!! Huh??!!

Yes Space Empires! My first space strategy game was Space Empires III, and I had many fun hours with Space Empires IV, even played some multiplayer. However, Galactic Civilizations 2 blows away Space Empires 5 in terms of prettieness, gameplay, user interface and, most importantly, AI. So GalCiv is now my Space Strategy game of choice, and I have never looked back.
