New 1v1 Ranked Map Lineup Coming
Big news for 1v1 ranked players! TheCoreCommander has announced on the official forums that the 1v1 ranked map lineup will be changing, four maps will be swapped out for new ones.
The great news is that both Liberium Battles and Thawing Glacier will be removed, to be replaced by Theta Passage and Canis River. Thank goodness! Though these maps had a handful of fans, I think the vast majority of the community largely hated them in 1v1 games. Theta Passage is a classic and a personal favorite of mine. I’m not as familiar with Canis River.
The other two maps being removed are Snoey Triangle and Sentry Point. Snoey Triangle is one of the new FA maps and I am a bit sad to see go. I am surprised it is being removed so quickly, I was still getting used to it. It may have some balance and gameplay issues so perhaps this is why. Sentry Point is easily one of the best maps in the game, so its also very sad to see that one go.
To replace these two maps there is a poll running at the thread I linked to above, so head over there and vote! There are five possibilities, including Fields of Isis, Blasted Rock, Ambush Pass, Arctic Refuge, and Saltrock Colony. I think if we are losing Sentry Point then Blasted Rock needs to be in because it has a similar style of gameplay on a distinctly different map. For the second I am torn between Fields of Isis and Saltrock Colony. Saltrock is a fun map that has lots of possibilities for land, sea, and air, while Isis is one of the few maps that actually has turtling as a conveivable option, though obviously not nearly as much in FA. I could go with either one in the end.
Once I find out what the new maps will be and when the change will be effected, I’ll post it here. If you have any thoughts or news, post it here for all to read.
UPDDATE Nov. 30: TheCoreCommander has announced the poll will end on Monday. So far Blasted Rock is pretty far ahead, with Isis and Saltrock practically tied for second. If you want to tip the scales either way, better vote this weekend. I’m kind of hoping Isis makes it in, it would be interesting to see how differently that map plays in FA 1v1 ranked vs. the old SupCom.

Oh so sad, I loved Snoey Triangle. Always had such a nice advantage as Aeon, haha :).
They also removed Winter Duell back in SC, though I loved that map too.
Anyway better to have less huge maps so I dont complain!

@Meddish: you are telling me! I have a brand new baby at home and the chances I get to play online are few and far between. That’s a part of why I am so happy to see the huge maps go, they were guaranteed to suck up a lot of time while the smaller maps allow me to finish a game in 20-30 minutes easily and either play another one or get back to my family.
